Today I want to talk a little about resistance bands. One of my favorite body weight exercises is pull-ups. They allow you to work your upper back muscles really well, help building strength, and only require a simple pull-up bar (which you can get for about $30.00 on-line). Unfortunately, there are some people who cannot do pull-ups. It takes time to build up the upper back strength and endurance and resistance bands might be the optimal solution for these people. All you have to do it to throw them over the pull-up bar and you are ready to the modified version of pull-ups that is called pull-downs.
I have been using Bodylastics resistance bands for a very long time and really liked them. They come in a variety of different bands so you can choose your desired resistance level, a couple of ankle straps to make sure you can use them for leg extensions and other leg exercises, a door attachment, and a fairly good set of workout routines that you can use to spice up your current workout plan. You can purchase them from Amazon for only $28.95 with free shipping (if you have Amazon Prime).
Resistance bands also provide an awesome way to add some isometric load to your existing strength training. You can read more about it on LiveStrong.com – I just want to suggest that you should have at least one isometric exercise in our workout for each muscle group.
